Ratings first.
Quotes second.
Most comparison sites are paid by the brands they rank. We're not. Here's exactly how we're paid, what that money can't touch, and where every rating comes from.

How we're paid
Installers pay us when we pass on your enquiry. Brands pay us nothing.
That referral fee is what keeps the ratings, guides and quotes free for you. It's paid by the installer, never by you, and it doesn't depend on which brand they quote.
What the fee pays for
- Reading datasheets and warranty documents
- Checking recalls, approvals and test results
- Vetting the installers who quote for you
- Keeping the site free and ad-free
What it can never touch
- Any score, rank or verdict
- Which products appear as picks
- What we say about recalls and weak points
- The order brands appear in
Where every rating comes from.
Every rule and weightManufacturer datasheets
Every product score comes from the specs the maker publishes, for products on the Clean Energy Council approved lists.
Australian warranty documents
We read the fine print, like battery throughput caps, rather than the headline number on the brochure.
Independent lab testing
For panels, Kiwa PVEL's reliability scorecards show how products hold up under stress testing.
ACCC recalls
We check the national Product Safety register for every brand, and say so even when there's nothing to report.
Installer votes and installation data
What installers choose for their own homes, and what Australians actually install, from Clean Energy Regulator data.
Published rules
Each piece of evidence turns into a score with a rule anyone can read. Nobody types a score in by hand.
Six promises we keep.
- 01
No paid rankings
No manufacturer, distributor or installer can pay for a score, a rank, a pick or a verdict.
- 02
Same rules for everyone
A brand we've never heard from can rank first; a brand we refer lots of quotes to can rank last.
- 03
Honest about gaps
If a datasheet leaves something out, we say 'not stated'. We never guess or average.
- 04
Three installers, tops
Your details go to no more than three installers who service your area. You choose whether to go ahead.
- 05
Bad news included
Recalls, warranty catches and weak points sit on the same page as the strengths.
- 06
Corrections in the open
When the method changes, we log it on the How we rate page with the date.
What we're not.
Being upfront about our limits is part of being independent.
A government body
We're a private business. The Clean Energy Council and the ACCC are the official sources we check against.
A test lab
We don't test products ourselves. We read what's published and tested by others, and show our working.
Personal advice
Ratings are general. Your installer should confirm what suits your roof, switchboard and energy use.
Set in stone
When a datasheet, warranty or recall changes, scores change too.
Spotted a mistake?
Tell us at info@energyupgradequotes.com.au. If we got a fact wrong, we'll fix it and note the change. Manufacturers are welcome to send newer datasheets or warranty documents; they can't pay for a different result.
