Battery and solar rebates step down every January. See what you can still claim

The best solar panel brands in Australia.

Which panel holds its output longest in Australian heat?

Look past peak wattage. Heat loss, the guaranteed output in year 25 and the length of the product warranty matter more on an Australian roof.

41 ranges from 8 brands, scored from manufacturer datasheets. Data checked 16 September 2026.

How to choose solar panels.

What size system do I need?

Most homes land between 6.6 and 10 kW. Start from your daytime use, then add room for a battery or EV if one is coming.

Panels can be oversized by up to a third over the inverter, which is why 6.6 kW of panels on a 5 kW inverter is so common.

Why heat performance matters more than wattage

Panels lose output as they heat up. On a 40°C day a roof-mounted panel can sit above 65°C.

The temperature coefficient tells you how much power is lost per degree. Closer to zero is better, and the gap compounds over every summer for 25 years.

Reading the warranty

There are two warranties. The product warranty covers defects; the performance warranty guarantees output over time.

A long warranty is only as good as the company behind it, so check the brand page for its Australian presence.

N-type, P-type or back-contact?

N-type TOPCon is now the mainstream choice: lower degradation and better heat tolerance than older P-type PERC.

Back-contact cells move the wiring behind the cell for more output per square metre. Worth it when roof space is tight.

Rebates on solar panels.

  • Small-scale technology certificates (STCs)

    Every state

Applied as a point-of-sale discount by your installer. A 6.6 kW system in zone 3 earns roughly 85 to 95 STCs in 2026, and the number falls each January until the scheme ends on 31 December 2030.

  • State solar programs

    VIC and others

Some states add rebates or interest-free loans on top of STCs, often means-tested. We check yours from your postcode.

How we score solar panels

Each datasheet value maps to 0 to 10 with the rule below. Your postcode and goals then adjust the weights.

  • Output guaranteed at year 25What the panel promises to still produce after 25 Australian summers. It compounds every year.Worked out from the datasheet's first-year and annual degradation: 84% scores 0, 92% scores 10.25%
  • Product warrantyCovers defects in the panel itself. Twelve years is the floor; the best give 25 or more.Years of product warranty: 10 scores 0, 30 scores 10.25%
  • Heat performancePanels lose output as they heat up, and roof panels often pass 65°C in summer.Temperature coefficient of Pmax: -0.38%/°C scores 0, -0.24%/°C scores 10.20%
  • EfficiencyMore watts from each square metre, which matters most on small or broken-up roofs.Highest module efficiency in the range: 20.5% scores 0, 25% scores 10.20%
  • Performance warranty lengthHow long the output guarantee runs.Years: 25 scores 0, 30 scores 10.10%

Gates first

A series must pass these before it's listed at all.

  • Currently on the Clean Energy Council approved modules list
  • Manufacturer datasheet on file for the series

Not in the score

  • Price, which changes weekly and depends on your installer
  • Owner star ratings, which rarely reflect long-term performance
  • Hail and wind ratings, which aren't stated consistently across datasheets yet

Questions about solar panels.

Do more expensive panels pay back?

Only when roof space is tight or heat losses are high. On a big unshaded roof, a well-made mid-range panel usually wins on value. Our scores show what you get; your quotes show what it costs.

Is a Tier 1 panel always better?

Tier 1 is a bankability list for large projects, not a quality test. We don't use it in the score. We look at what the datasheet guarantees.

How long do panels last?

Good panels keep producing well past 25 years. What changes is output: a guarantee of 89% at year 25 versus 85% is a meaningful difference over the system's life.

Why do some ranges say 'not enough data to rank'?

When a datasheet leaves out more than a third of what we score, we don't guess. The range stays listed with its datasheet, and it's ranked once the data is confirmed.
