Our verdict
Is a Sofar inverter right for you?
Decent budget inverters that are growing fast, with local support. Its 2018 compliance problems are long past but worth knowing, and installers rarely pick it for their own homes.
Rated 7.1/10, #5 of 9 brands we rate for inverters.
A good fit if
- Price is the priority and your installer supports it
Maybe look elsewhere if
- You want a brand installers recommend for their own homes

Questions to ask your installer
- 1Is this a hybrid, and which batteries can I add later?
- 2How many MPPTs, and which roof faces go on each?
- 3Can I see the warranty letter, and who services it locally?
A good installer will be glad you asked, whichever brand you choose.

Recalls and known issues
19 April 2018
Sofar grid-tied inverter (sold by Fortends)
Inverters sold 1 July 2016 to 21 February 2018. Not a range we list.
The inverter could exceed voltage limits and might not switch off when required. The distributor stopped trading, so owners pay for an installer to correct the firmware settings.
